Faucets polished in chrome have good decorative purposes and their sparkle has made them a useful addition to bathrooms. While using the bathrooms, water gets spilled on the faucets and dry out causing marks, stains, or grime on the surface. Continued accumulation of such dried water stains can dull the chrome plating of the faucets and make them less appealing. Chrome plated bathroom faucets require regular cleaning to ensure that they appear sparkling and clean.
Regular cleaning methods often fail in completely removing the accumulated grime and stains from the faucets. Using strong household chemicals is not recommended for the purpose, as it can actually corrode the metal used in the faucet and cause discolorations. Natural cleaning agents like vinegar and lemon are great alternatives to retain the natural color of bathroom faucets and maintain its sparkle. Some of the cleaning tips for restoring the sparkle of chrome bathroom faucets are described below.
Rinse with Water
Before scrubbing the faucets with a cleaning solution, it is necessary to rinse it first with running water. Properly flush the faucets with water to remove any dirt or grime build up on the surface. This will make it easy to clean the faucets and prepares the surface with a thin film of water to aid in effective cleaning. The pre-wash can remove some of the grime in the faucet although not fully when combined with mechanical scrubbing using a cleaning brush.
Prepare a Soap Solution
A simple cleaning solution made from mild soap and warm water can remove a majority of the grime and dirt. Mix this solution of soap and warm water in a bowl for cleaning. Dip a cloth or brush in the bowl and then gently rub the surface of the faucets, especially the hard to reach areas. This will remove many of the accumulated germs and stains from the faucets. After scrubbing, rinse again with running water to fully clear out the soap solution.
Polish with Lemon
The citric acid present in lemon is a good cleaning agent that can act against stains and grimes on the bathroom faucets. For this, cut a lemon in half and scrub the lemon all over the faucets in repeated action. Extract the lemon juice in a bowl and dip a brush to scrub the hard to reach areas. Leave it for a few minutes and then rinse the faucet with water to remove the lemon deposits. Wipe it with a clean dry cloth to retain the natural sparkle of the chrome faucet.
