Sliding into a bed covered in freshly washed sheet is blissful, but getting to this treat needs some effort. Avoiding some of the below mentioned common mistakes will help you ensure that you get a good night’s sleep on the laundry day.
Waiting Too Long Between Washes
It is true that your bed sheets do not get dirty like your gym shorts, but you spend considerable amount of time on them. Germs, body oils, and sweat accumulate quickly on your sheets, night after night. This is the reason why you should wash your bed sheets at least once in two weeks.
Forgetting to Pre-Treat Stains
It is a good idea to check pillowcases and bed sheets for any makeup residue or other stains. If you find stains on the sheets, you can make use of a pre-wash stain remover to get them out, and then proceed with the normal washing.
Overloading the Washing Machine
You may feel tempted to dump all your family beddings in a single load, but if you need to get the washing job done right, you will need to split the load. Sheets need to be circulated well inside the machine to be cleaned properly. Therefore, you should not cram your machine with loads of clothing.
Also, if your washing machine has an agitator in the middle, make sure that the sheets do not wrap around the agitator, as this can lead to wrinkling and tearing of the sheets.
Selecting the Wrong Washer Setting
You need not choose a heavy-duty cycle for washing bed sheets. It is okay to wash sheets on regular cycles if they are not seriously messy. Also, make sure that you choose a setting with a cycle that uses water with temperature that is safe for the fabric of the sheet.
Spinning for Too Long in the Dryer
It is true that bed sheets will take a little longer to dry than regular cloth loads, but leaving them in dryer for too long can cause them to shrink. For sheets, it is best to tumble dry bed sheets on low heat for short time. This will help you decrease shrinkage and wrinkling of sheets while drying.
